May Lin Kessenich
LLMSW
My approach begins with listening to what is real and true for you in your life right now. Without judgment or assumptions, I will learn about you and what you are experiencing in an open and welcoming space.
Validation, affirmation, and acceptance are essential parts of my practice. In partnership with you, we can understand and explore the unique challenges in your life by discovering what core issues are underneath what you are experiencing.
I seek to build trust in our connection by attentive listening, curiosity, and asking questions that build understanding. Influenced by Nonviolent Communication (NVC), narrative, and collaborative therapies, I will invite you to explore your feelings, thoughts, and communication styles.
My practice is affirming of all races, relationship styles, genders, and sexual orientations.
I have a Masters in Social Work from the University of Michigan. I specialize in life transitions, sexuality, parenting, and relationships. I have previous experience working as a Spanish teacher, a postpartum and birth doula, and in research for holistic and alternative therapies. I identify as multiracial and am a parent, athlete, and life-long learner.
In my spare time I love traveling internationally, learning new languages, and immersing myself in nature!
